So, with great sadness, disappointment, and a lack of comprehension, I’m sharing that once again it was not Martin’s turn to win the coveted James Beard award he has spent the better part of the last two decades dreaming of achieving. Despite his tireless devotion to his culinary career, his incredible talent, his generosity of spirit to his profession, the Beard Foundation, his staff and his restaurant, I guess it was not enough. Here’s what I do know. He opens our restaurant every morning, he’s the last to leave every night. He studies his craft every minute he isn’t on his feet cooking, prepping, teaching. He never stands still, he is always looking at how he and the restaurant can be better than the day before. He may not be one of a kind, but this humble, outrageously motivated and talented guy is in a league of his own, I don’t need anyone else to tell me that. So, we go back to Santa Fe and we pick up our hearts and we go back to doing what we do best, offering his amazing talent on a plate and serving it up with the best hospitality we know how.
